Plot Summary: Okajima Rokuro is a Japanese businessman…in a town full of Japanese businessmen. His normal day consists of social drinking with clients and being kicked around by his bosses. He finally gets a break though, as he’s sent by his company to the tropical seas of Eastern China to deliver a disc…only his boat gets hijacked by a band of mercenaries that were hired to steal it. “Rock” (as he is newly dubbed by his captors) catches the interest of the only female merc “Revy” as she thinks he’s worth a ransom, taking him hostage. However, the disc turns out to be more trouble than its worth, and complicates things both for Rock, and the mercenaries known as Black Lagoon.
Genres: Adventure, Drama, Psychological, Shounen The second barrage: Okajima Rokuro - now known almost exclusively as 'Rock' - was once a typical, put-upon Japanese businessman. Then, on a routine business trip, he was kidnapped and ransomed by the Lagoon Company: a band of mercenary pirates operating out of the crime-riddled city of Roanapur. Abandoned by his bosses, he joined the Lagoon Company. Now he must try and stay afloat amongst the ever-shifting politics of the criminal underworld, while simultaneously avoiding death at the hands of his quick-tempered, gun-toting co-worker, 'Two Hand' Revy.
Hannah's comments: I must say, the first twelve episodes were the best. In a way it seems it has a good story , and more or less comes back to the sea, ships and their homecountry/base. In the second season, it´s a little lack of story, why they get involved in something related in the US. Besides, (spoilers ahead), why will I know now that Revy isn´t really speaking Japanese and so on? I couldn´t get the feeling of that the story was taken place mostly in China. The second season even more confuses me,mostly because of continously shifting languages but also it´s more serious than the first season. I also didn´t got that Okajima could so many languages. To messy with blood and guns too often in the second series. Too much message about "shoot and kill people for fun" than in the first 12 episodes. The first season got more feelings and "need to shoot, to survive". Still, the whole series over all is good. They really have done the animation good (especially the ships and the sea, islands, and the city of N.Y). What also get into my mind, is that two of the main characters has the main voices in the excellent animé Monster. First of all I relized it for Mr Dutch (in Monster, its Inspector Lunge). Later, Ms Balalaika´s voice gets familiar as well (who is Eva in Monster). Some of the characters were quite "meaningless". Meaningless, acted in a stupid, dumb way. I´m sure it has it´s points as well. Anyway, music also good. What was the best? Some shootings, some car-racings, and the animation inside the ships. Over all, definitely a worth watching-series, for those who want action on high-high speed.
