Shuji and Chise are two Hokkaido high school students barely starting a relationship with each other. Then, with no warning, a squadron of bombers from an unknown country destroy the city of Sapporo. All hope is lost when suddenly, the bombers are destroyed by a small red light floating across the sky. At this point, Shuji finds out that the one responsible for eliminating the enemy forces is Chise, who reveals herself as a cyborg engineered for mass-destruction.

Every weapon must have a prototype. For the ultimate weapon, career soldier Lt. Mizuki is that prototype. As she comes to the limit of her powers as a weapon, she must watch the tragic unfolding of Chise's growth into the final weapon. Seen from the sidelines, this is a new perspective on the tragic tale told in SaiKano.

Hannah's comments:I really had forgotten I had seen this tv-series a half a year ago. The best part is the music, well done! Some of the animation of the fireworks were good and some of the school life animations, but other than that I quite disliked and was a little disappointed on the animation. In a way to soft but also in a way too hard lines, especially Shuji´s and Chise´s faces. The story very, very poor and thin. Why had Chise become the way she was? Why had she have to be a soldier? Where was the actual story? I didn´t think it reached the mission, to save the earth, it only go through some lovething, like sex and other emotional thoughts between Chise and Shuji and all the destructions - detructions of emtions and the environemnt. Though, some of their thoughts were good to think of, for your self, on your on purpose in the daily life. But sorry guys and girls, I was actually quite bored when I watched Saikano. No, I didn´t like this animé at all. I think (at least can imagine) the animators missed a huge part of the story while created it from the manga. Even if I also have seen the OAV - Another Love Song, I still think this Saikano is boring. It feels only depressing in a kind of useless way. My advice is you shall read the manga instead, I have heard that is good. So if the manga is good, than much better than the animé, including the OAV.
