This series is not recommended to those who has got weak hearts, or can't imagine at all, what a computer and network can do to your life. Do you want "creepy" feelings? Go,go watch the series!

There is the world around us, a world of people, tactile sensation, and culture. There is the wired world, inside the computer, of images, personalities, virtual experiences, and a culture all of its own. The day after a classmate commits suicide, lain, a thirteen year-old girl, discovers how closely the two worlds are linkedi when she receives an e-mail from the dead girl: "I just abandoned my body. I still live here..." Has the line between the real world and the wired world begun to blur?

Hannah's comments: Zero of action like fightings. 100% action when it comes to brain-activity. Still excellent anime!! Lain, seems so little and weak. She hasn't any interests to the computerworld, yet. Her dad wants to buy her a new "Navi". At start she only reads mail. Suddenly she discovers there is a cyberworld. As the story goes on,she recreates her room ,looks soon as a computer-hall; cables, screens etc. She solves what the Wired is.What is ESP? What is PSI? What kind of science-project started all this? There are gangs in the so called Wired, they believe in the Wired and not the real world. Lain goes deeper in the Wired one and often she is confused who she is, is she the real Lain, or is she Wired-Lain? Much talking and discussing computer terms. Some early history is mentioned. Big question, can people "transport" themselfs from this real world to Wired world and vice versa? Is there a "God" who creates the Wired world? Very depressing series, you have to be in a happy mode when you watching the series! The background sound/music often is a playing electrical guitar, isn't "music" you'll be happy of,but it sure fit the story! Animation is very simple, such as movements of people, and all spaces the persons are gathering in. Still, animation of the details, is excellent, also the face-expressions. I even like how they made the computerlight from the screen, and how the light reflects in Lain's eyes. What I see, how can a "normal" person be so destroyed by the Wired world? I liked the sound from the high-voltage-cabels , which you see often during the series. Serial experiments Lain, has some components from the Matrix, BUT NO violance at all. The series is shorter than I expected, each DVD doesn't tell 100min of the story. First DVD around 90min, Second, third and fourth only approx. 70min each. rest of the time is bonus-things, like how they created the film etc.

Do you think the series will end as you expect?
